Steve Jobs, his departure, and my mysterious numbers
The story of my life has had so many “coincidences” that it could probably make a good movie. Among these interesting coincidences, I can now include the life, contributions and departure of Steve Jobs, one of my sources of inspiration.
It all starts with three mysterious numbers that have been part of my life ever since I was born. I was born on Oct. the 5th. 19xx, so you can bet that my “three mysterious numbers” will have to do with some of the numbers in my birth date: 10/5/xx (the “xx” also count).
I was first aware of one of these “mysterious” numbers when I was in 5th. grade and my teacher asked us to choose and write down our favorite number. I chose the number 5 not on “coincidence” but because of the fact that I was born on Oct. the 5th. However, it is clear that I could have not influenced my 5th. grade teacher to ask me for a favorite number when I was 10 (5 plus 5) years old. So, I started to pay close attention to the number 5 since then.
Later on I became aware of the second mysterious number, the number 1, appearing constantly around me. Maybe one of the most repetitive situations with the number 1 involved is when I turn to watch the actual time on any clock and 11:11 is there. It could happen in the morning as well as at night, and it just happens so often that it could not pass by as a “simple coincidence” anymore when I related it to another of the numbers in my birth date.
From that moment on, I became more aware of how the number 1 and the number 5 have been present in many types of events in my life. Let me give you a few real and specific examples next:
Example (1): One time when my friends were talking about the best age for them to get married, I shared my own thoughts and said: “I think I will be getting married at around 25″. Well, guess what, it happened exactly like that. I got married exactly 25 (that’s 5 x 5) years after I was born. Yes, it just happened as a “coincidence” when me and my girl friend were planning the wedding. We both wanted to get married during the month of October because of the good weather we get during this month. We both wanted the date to be on one of the Saturdays of that month, and it just happened by “coincidence” that October the 5th. was the 1st. Saturday of that month. The ceremony was scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., but the most eye-opening news came when my mom told me: “you chose to start a new life exactly at the same hour when you were born… you were born on Oct. the 5th. at 5:00 p.m.”… Wow! So many “coincidences” for the number 5, huh?
Example (2): One day I wanted to rent a P.O. Box where the UPS could send packages during working hours and have someone available to receive the package for me. The Postal Office does not receive UPS packages, so I went to one of those small stores that rent postal boxes and keep your larger boxes in a storage area until you come and pick them up. So, I had just rented my new P.O. Box but I did not know how to write my new postal address, so I asked the clerk for it and when she gave me the complete address the “coincidence” jumped right in front of my face: she gave me the Box number 15-515 and the street address just happened to be the 111 of the 1st. street… Wow! So many 1 and 5 combinations for a simple event as getting a new P.O. Box address.
Now, I don’t want to write a very long post here, probably I already did by now, so I’ll jump right into the moment when I became aware of the third mysterious number. It just happened 5 days ago when I heard the news about Steve Job’s departure. I was celebrating my “NN”th. birthday. Yes, he passed away on 10/5/11 when the 10th. month (October) has 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. Now the third “mysterious number” appeared when I noticed that Steve Jobs died at the age of 56 and the number 6 got my attention: I realized that if you add 1 plus 5 gives you a 6, and the number 6 also appears in the numbers of my birthday (will not reveal where, though). So, I’ll have to start concentrating on the number 6 appearing around me from now on.
Steve Jobs’s life has been an inspiration to my own life ever since I learned that made possible the 1st. Graphical Operating System in the history of computers. He built it 10 years before Bill Gates came out with his 1st. Windows version of his operating system. He bought Pixar (having a different name) right when the original company was planning on closing their 3D Animation projects. He also left us with so many interesting tech tools and gadgets that now form part of the daily lives of millions of people around the globe.
As a contribution to his memory to keep alive for the years to come, I want to close this post by leaving a video I found in YouTube about of one of his most inspirational speeches I’ve ever heard. This speech was recorded in 2005 (noticed the number 5 there?) during the graduation day for the Stanford University students. Oh and, by the way, I could noticed that the number 1 and 5 also appear in the length of this video. I did not record it, of course, but the numbers 1 and the 5 can be easily noticed on its 15:05 minutes in length. I must end here by saying that this time the coincidences are not as important as the message that you’ll find next. Enjoy:
